The CORMOSEA email discussion list is related to the Committee on Research Materials on Southeast Asia of the Association for Asian Studies. The Committee provides electronic input, moral support, and insufferable criticism but no editorial control over the list ;-). Like the Committee, the list is intended to facilitate discussions and exchanges of information relating to research materials dealing with the countries and peoples of Southeast Asia (defined roughly as the lands and seas occupied by the countries of Burma (Myanmar), Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, East Timor, and the Philippines).

The current number of subscribers is about 90, distributed internationally. Traffic on the list varies considerably in quantity and content. It may include CORMOSEA business or general information related to Southeast Asia. Messages are estimated to number between 10 and 25 per week. As the list is relatively small, many of the subscribers know each other personally or electronically. Thus it is a good idea to introduce yourself the first time that you post to the list. There is no reason to introduce yourself prior to that time.

Archives

You can get an archive of messages for the current month or previous months. Use in conjunction with getting a directory of all archives and replace archive.txt with the name of the month you want. For example, send cormosea archive.2000-aug

Because of a decided lack of interest in a poll in 1993, no archives were maintained for the CORMOSEA list initially; later this decision was reversed and archives are now available from August 2000-present.

SEA-ACQ Discussion List

SEA-ACQ is intended to facilitate diffusion of relevant commercial information and sharing of experiences in acquiring materials related to Southeast Asia. Because subscribers are likely to include producers/sellers and consumers/buyers/librarians, discretion is probably advisable; however, candor is desirable. Subscribers should understand that some information is probably better shared outside this public forum.

The SEA-ACQ list is related but not restricted to the Committee on Research Materials on Southeast Asia (CORMOSEA) of the Association for Asian Studies. Like the Committee, the list is intended to facilitate discussions and exchanges of information relating to the acquisition of information resources (in whatever format) dealing with the countries and peoples of Southeast Asia (defined roughly as the lands and seas occupied by the countries of Burma [Myanmar], Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, and the Philippines) and, secondarily, the diaspora of persons from the region.

Subscribers interested in broader discussions of research resources should be aware of the CORMOSEA list (above). That list is intended to facilitate broader discussions as well as business related to CORMOSEA (the organization).
NETIQUETTE. Information from publishers, dealers, and others is welcome; however, this is seen as facilitating the acquisition of information rather than promoting commercial activity per se.

Subscriptions to the list are open to anyone, and discussions are unmoderated; however, postings are limited to subscribers. SPAMMING IS DECRIED AND WILL RESULT IN EXCLUSION FROM LIST. As a minimum, spamming is defined as sending information not related to the focus of the list or repeatedly sending the same information. Announcements of NEW catalogs, publications, and other information resources are appropriate.
